An update on the future of Lionel Messi has been provided this weekend.

Messi’s Barcelona future
Lionel Messi’s future has of course been a major talking point in the world of football for some time now.
Following Barcelona’s hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League last season, Messi attempted to depart the Camp Nou via a clause in his contract.
However, after months of back and forth, the Argentine eventually opted to stay put for 2020/21.
But, despite being set to see out the remainder of the campaign with Barca, Messi’s future beyond the summer remains unclear.
Two of the teams most heavily linked with the veteran attacker over the last year or so have been Manchester City and PSG, with it having even been reported earlier this month that the latter had offered Messi a two-year deal.
A Camp Nou stay, however, was then touted more recently.
The Times suggested that the 6-time Ballon d’Or winner looked set to remain a Barcelona payer, following positive talks between the club and his father.
It was added that Messi was close to agreeing a 10-year deal with the Blaugrana.
Messi to Man City?
Now, though, fresh reports stemming from England this weekend suggest that Messi departing the Camp Nou this summer is still a possibility.
According to the Sun, Manchester City have been told that they can secure the Argentine, if they pay him £500,000-a-week after tax.
It is added that Messi is open to the idea of a 12-month contract, containing the option for a further year.
