Ozil, Arsenal link is over
Despite not having played for the club since before the first UK lockdown, Arsenal have continued to pay Mesut Ozil an extortionate amount of money.
The German international signed his deal with the club under Arsene Wenger soon after the departure of Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United.
Arsenal saw the deal as an imperative in order not to lose both key players within the group.
However, soon after signing his new deal, his performances lacked consistency and quickly the overall opinion on the player’s situation with the club grew sour.
It worsened under Unai Emery and became almost untenable under Mikel Arteta. Indeed, it got to the point where eventually the club, led strongly by Edu the technical director, managed to get Ozil out permanently in January of 2021.

⚽️ Agreement in principal was to end contract & join Fenerbahce on free
⚽️ Eventually became permanent transfer (no fee) to allow potential future #FENER to #AFC bonuses

The club however continued to pay a portion of his wages and the final amount the club paid on his last day associated with Arsenal was revealed by Turkish media.
The final Ozil fee
The staggering fee which Arsenal had to pay Mesut Ozil might make some eyes water.
Reported by Fenerbahce reporter Tâlha Arslan, Arsenal are said to have paid £16.38m into his account.
“Arsenal deposited a final salary of approximately £16.38m (90%) into Mesut Özil’s account today,” he wrote.
Arsenal, Mesut Özil’in hesabına bugün yaklaşık olarak 16.38 Milyon £’lik (%90) son maaş ödemesini yatırdı.

The money being paid to Ozil is sure to have severely hampered Arsenal’s ability to spend as much during certain periods.
Without the strings attached regarding the money owed to the German, it is hoped that more financial power can be asserted.
The likes of Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis and David Luiz have all had their wages removed from the bill too opening up further scope for investment.
With some big-money moves linked, could this be the start of a major spending window for the Arsenal aided by the economic detachment to players such as Ozil?
