The Golden Boy award
The yearly Golden Boy awards give a glimpse into the most exciting talents to come through around the world.
There is a star studded history of winners who have gone onto great things. Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Wayne Rooney and Cesc Fabregas were all early winners of the competition which began in 2003.
However, there are always some winners whose careers do not pan out quite as expected. Alexandre Pato in 2009 experienced a host of injury problems which affected his rise.
Mario Balotelli in 2010 won the Premier League and Champions League but was unable to fulfil his potential touted at the time of the award.
Mario Götze in 2011 made the move from Borussia Dortmund to Bayern Munich but after failing to establish himself at both clubs, even on his return to Dortmund, he now plays in the Eredivisie with PSV at 29.

The last 4 winners, Kylian Mbappe, Matthijs de Ligt, Joao Felix and Erling Haaland however are all showing great promise at some of the world’s biggest clubs.
2021 nominations
The awards are given out at the end of the year but the process of whittling down the names starts very early.
In June, the initial 100 nominations have been revealed and the Premier League has plenty of representatives.
