Arsenal see off Brighton
Arsenal played host to Brighton on Sunday afternoon, in their final game of the season.
Brighton’s Premier League status was already secured for another season ahead of kick-off at the Emirates, so they had nothing to play for.
Arsenal, on the other hand, could have secured a spot in the Europa Conference League if results went their way.
Despite picking up a 2-0 win on Sunday thanks to a starring display from Nicolas Pepe, though, Tottenham’s downing of Leicester meant that Arsenal were forced to settle for 8th place.

Arteta on Arsenal signing Martin Odegaard
Whilst it was Pepe who netted the goals on Sunday, it was in fact another Arsenal star who caught the eye against Brighton.
That man was Martin Odegaard, who is now due to return to Real Madrid following the expiration of his loan.

Following the Norwegian’s latest impressive display in an Arsenal shirt, though, Gunners fans are no doubt hopeful that Odegaard could yet remain in north London next season, whether that be on another loan or as a permanent signing.
In turn, unsurprisingly, Mikel Arteta was drawn on the midfielder’s future in his post-Brighton presser.
When asked how confident he is regarding the possibility of Odegaard lining out at the Emirates beyond the summer, Arteta explained:
“Well, we have a very clear and strong opinion on what we would like to do, but he’s not our player. We will have to discuss in the next few weeks what and respect first of all because he’s a Real Madrid player and have those communications.
“We tried to make everything that we could to get Martin performing for the team, which I think he’s done. He has adapted really well to our way of playing and to our football club. Hopefully we have given him as well the hope and the feeling that it could be a good place for him.”
The Spaniard was then asked if he is confident that Madrid could be convinced to let Arsenal keep Odegaard for another year, to which he replied:
“I don’t know. It’s not in our hands so I don’t know.”
