Tottenham Hotspur were booed off the pitch by their own returning fans as they offered a limp performance, going down 2-1 to a well-drilled Aston Villa. An early Steven Bergwijn strike set a platform for the home side to build upon, but it was Aston Villa who came on stronger.
They were helped no end by a woeful first half by Spurs left-back Sergio Reguilon, who first sliced into his own net and then gave the ball away to allow Ollie Watkins to finish coolly past Hugo Lloris.

Spurs left sweating over European football
For those fans that paid the £60 fee for a ticket, it was not one to stick long in the memory. Stuck up high in the stadium in order to accommodate banners, they were subject to a painful and slow Tottenham performance which may yet cost them a place in Europe next season.
Sitting on 59 points, they travel to high-flying Leicester City on the final day of the season. The Foxes will need all three points to have any chance of qualifying for the Champion League, whilst wins for Arsenal and Everton mean that Tottenham will need to match Everton’s result, better West Ham’s result, and not drop more than one point to Arsenal.
However, Europa League football appears out of their hands, with the lilywhites needing West Ham to slip up to have any chance of qualifying for the competition that they exited at the quarter-final stage this season.
End of the road for Harry Kane?
In the last week, speculation surrounding the future of Harry Kane has reached fever pitch, with several major outlets claiming that the striker is looking to move on this summer. It is clear to see why- the gap in quality between him and some of his teammates is so vast that at times it must get boring for the striker constantly having to bail them out of dire situations.
England’s captain’s reaction after full-time whistle, however, was perhaps the clearest indication that these rumours were borne of truth. Clapping the Spurs fans, it appeared as if the striker was holding back tears as he fought the emotions that come with his 16 years in North London. With one game left to go, Kane has the opportunity to leave the club with European football next season, but will need to perform against a strong Leicester side.
