Man United protest: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blames ‘certain individuals’

Manchester United are 90 minutes away from a place in the Europa League final.

However, much of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s press conference before Thursday’s match against Roma was dominated by the fallout from last weekend’s fans’ protest which ultimately lead to the postponement of the Premier League match against Liverpool.

Solskjaer was repeatedly pressed by reporters to react to the events last Sunday, and the Man United boss ultimately delivered the following line:

When it becomes a police matter that’s not nice and it has not been helped by certain individuals.

I have to say that’s another part of it, that’s your (the media’s) end of it.

Solskjaer was referring to Gary Neville & Jamie Carragher

Although Solskjaer didn’t expand on the identities of these ‘certain individuals’, Times reporter Paul Hirst has done just that, writing:

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has condemned the Manchester United supporters who broke into Old Trafford on Sunday and has accused pundits, including Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, of whipping up the protests.

While he did not name either pundit, The Times understands that the United manager was referring to Neville, his former United team-mate, and Carragher, the former Liverpool defender.

Many Man United fans may be dismayed by the claim Solskjaer is upset with Neville and Carragher following the protest.

They’d surely argue that rather than looking at the pundits, the blame should placed at the Glazers’ door.

On the Glazers, it’s worth noting that Solskjaer again repeated that the Man United owners have apologised to him for the failed Super League attempt.

Of course, the Glazers have yet to speak publicly to Man United fans about the debacle – despite the repeated opportunities they’ve had to do so.

Simon Jordan calls out Gary Neville on talkSPORT

In a separate incident this week, Gary Neville was blasted by Simon Jordan during his radio show on talkSPORT.

Once again, Neville was put through the wringer for his support of the protesters at Old Trafford. Jordan said:

I don’t care what people like Gary Neville come out with, calling on a lynch mob and start talking about how there is an entitlement for fans to do this.

No way is there an entitlement to attack police officers, no way is there an entitlement to break into a football pitch, climb onto goals, break into hospitality and smash up environments purely and simply because you think you’ve got a cause.

? “I don’t care what he comes out with.”

? “It’s being utilised by Gary to advance a soapbox wrapped in hypocrisy.”

? “There’s a greed & hypocrisy across football embodied by people like Gary.”@SJOpinion10 says Gary Neville should not be seen as the voice of the fans. pic.twitter.com/rKkMXRmQ6w
