Foden goes close
Gareth Southgate’s men are of course currently playing out their Euro 2020 opener.
The Three Lions headed into the tournament with high hopes, boasting an impressive up and coming crop of talent, including the likes of Phil Foden, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka.
Revenge, meanwhile, was no doubt firmly on the minds of Southgate and co., with Croatia having of course ousted England from their last major international tournament appearance, at the 2018 World Cup.
Despite having enjoyed the better of things thus far, though, the Three Lions are yet to find a breakthrough in their Group D opener.
Phil Foden came closest to opening the game’s scoring inside five minutes, when the Manchester City starlet cut inside, before bending a fine effort onto the base of Dominik Livaković’s post:
Phil Foden – SO close to the opener!

Lingard watches on
One of those who could of course have added another element of guile to Gareth Southgate’s squad this afternoon is Jesse Lingard.
Despite having enjoyed a scintillating half season on loan with West Ham, however, the decision was eventually made to leave the midfielder out, with the England boss having instead opted for the likes of Jack Grealish and the aforementioned Foden.
As outlined above, though, Lingard has evidently not allowed his Euros disappointment to get the better of him.
The Manchester United man is currently enjoying the action at Wembley from a nearby beer garden, alongside an expectant group of England supporters:
