Man United’s summer window
Manchester United are almost certainly set to claim 2nd spot in the Premier League this season – their highest finish under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and joint-highest in the post-Sir Alex Ferguson era.
United, though, are still quite clearly still some way away from truly challenging for the Premier League title.
So, though they are certainly heading the right direction, Man United need to bolster their squad in a number of areas this summer.
Most Man United fans will likely agree that the right-wing, centre-forward, central midfield and centre-backs spots are the positions which need addressing the most.
Mason Greenwood continues to shine
It is unlikely that the Red Devils will be able to sign top, top players in all four of those positions in just one summer.
However, Mason Greenwood’s recent form could end up saving the Manchester outfit a fair bit of money in the upcoming window.
It has been quite obvious for some time now that Anthony Martial is not good enough to be the main centre-forward at United.
However, Edinson Cavani has, despite not playing every game, proven that he is exactly the type of striker a club such as United need.
The main issue with Cavani though is of course his age (34) and fitness. But if Man United are able to keep hold of the Uruguayan for another summer, it could prove to be huge form them.
Cavani, as already mentioned, cannot play 40+ games a season anymore. But if Mason Greenwood continues to shine, he could easily act as the understudy to Cavani.
Unlike Martial, it is apparent that Greenwood has striker instincts and a keen eye for goal.
The Englishman would begin United’s comeback against Aston Villa on Sunday with another quality finish, earning his 6th goal in his last six league games:

Said strike also meant Greenwood become the highest-scoring teenager for Man United in the Premier League, surpassing Wayne Rooney’s record of 15:

The 19-year-old just needs a bit more time to hone his craft, and there would be no better way to do that than learning from someone like Cavani.
So, instead of spending big on a striker this summer, United should get Cavani to sign a new deal and then use the South American and Greenwood as their main no.9s.
This would allow the Manchester outfit to spend funds elsewhere, perhaps at the right-wing spot on someone like Jadon Sancho.?
The signing of Sancho would mean Greenwood would not have to deputise out right as much, allowing him more chances to learn his trade in his natural centre-forward spot, where he is quite clearly going to excel in over the next several years.
