Manchester United are considering a summer swoop for Southampton standout Danny Ings, according to reports.

Saints standout
Prolific hitman Ings has of course enjoyed another solid campaign to date.
The 28-year-old has reestablished himself as one of English football’s most feared strikers over the last 18 months or so, proving a key cog in an impressive Southampton side.
After racking up a stellar 22 goals in the Premier League last season, Ings, despite fitness concerns, has since found the net a further 12 times across 28 league appearances this time around.
He has also notched a respectable four assists.
Such exploits had helped Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men to a surprise challenge for European football earlier in the campaign, though the Saints have since slipped well off the pace of the top-6.
Old Trafford switch?
As such, it goes without saying that Southampton will be keen to keep hold of Ings for as long as possible.
With such impressive production, however, comes inevitable outside interest.
Recent months, for example, have seen one outfit in particular persistently tipped to launch an offensive in a bid to land the Saints’ star performer.
The side in question? Tottenham.
Amid suggestions that Ings is stalling on putting pen to paper on a new contract at St. Mary’s, the north Londoners have been named as a potential summer landing spot.
And, as outlined above, the last 24 hours have seen another of the Premier League’s heavyweights enter the fray.
As per a report from transfer expert Mike McGrath of the Telegraph, Manchester United have identified Ings as a potential reinforcement to their frontline ahead of next season.
With Edinson Cavani of course entering the twilight years of his career, and Anthony Martial continuing to struggle for both form and fitness, Southampton’s attacking spearhead has been earmarked as an ideal, low cost option to bring Premier League-proven quality to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad.
McGrath goes as far as to claim that enquiries have already been made on the part of the Red Devils, with Ings continuing to stall on committing his future to Southampton.
Come the summer, the 28-year-old will have just a year left on his current Saints deal.
Manchester United have made enquiries about Danny Ings’ situation at Southampton, where he has one year left on his contract.
