A new suitor has emerged in the hunt for on-loan Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi, according to reports in France.

Hertha stint
Guendouzi was of course granted permission to depart Arsenal last summer.
This came with the Frenchman having been frozen out by Mikel Arteta, after being accused of taunting Brighton’s stars over finances during a defeat at the Amex back in June.
Guendouzi made the move to Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin, for the 2020/21 campaign.
To say that his time in the German capital has since proven hit-and-miss, though, would be putting it lightly.
At one point in the season, the midfield talent had actually established himself as a key performer at the base of Hertha’s midfield, starting week-in, week-out, and even chipping in with the occasional goal:

Recent months, however, have been of an altogether more testing nature for Guendouzi.
On the back of a change on the bench at the Olympiastadion, Arsenal’s midfield loanee fell out of favour, as Pal Dardai opted for the likes of Lucas Tousart and Sami Khedira to man Hertha’s midfield ranks, amid a tense battle against the drop.
Then, just when it appeared as though Guendouzi had wrestled back favour, confirmation was forthcoming that the 22-year-old has been ruled out for the remainder of the season, with a metatarsal fracture:

Marseille keen
In turn, it has long looked altogether unlikely that Hertha will be willing to pay the kind of fee that Arsenal are set to demand for Guendouzi’s signature this summer.
The Gunners are thought to be open to the idea of parting with their on-loan youngster on a permanent basis, to help raise funds for a predicted squad overhaul at the Emirates.
But, as outlined above, if the latest word stemming from France is to be believed, then Mikel Arteta and co. need not fret.
This comes amid claims that a fresh suitor has emerged in the Guendouzi sweepstakes.
The outfit in question? Marseille.
According to L’Equipe, the Ligue 1 giants have set their sights on the Arsenal man, as a potential replacement for the in-demand Boubacar Kamara.
Marseille are keen to take advantage of Guendouzi’s current terms in north London, with the midfielder’s contract set to expire in the summer of 2022.
[#Mercato?]
