Messi’s Barcelona future
Lionel Messi’s future has of course been a major talking point in the world of football for some time now.
Following Barcelona’s hammering at the hands of Bayern Munich in the Champions League last season, Messi attempted to depart the Camp Nou via a clause in his contract.
However, after months of back and forth, the Argentine eventually opted to stay put for 2020/21.
But, despite being set to see out the remainder of the campaign with Barca, Messi’s future beyond the summer remains unclear at present.
This comes with the Argentine’s current contract at the Camp Nou due to expire at the end of the month.
Koeman & Laporta on Messi
Reports at the end of April claimed that Messi was set to stay put after positive talks between the club and his father.
However, we have since heard very little reliable chatter on the Messi situation.
That has no doubt left some Barca fans concerned their greatest-ever player could be set to leave in the coming weeks.
But, recent comments on the part of both manager Ronald Koeman and president Joan Laporta do seem to suggest they are confident Messi will be staying put.
Koeman, for his part, stated that Messi has to finish his career at Barca and he hopes they can make it official soon.
“Messi has to finish his career at Barcelona, so I hope we can make it official soon.”
Laporta, meanwhile, did say that the renewal is not at an advanced stage. But, he did go on to claim he believes Messi will stay:
“The renewal isn’t at an advanced stage,” Laporta has admitted.
“It’s okay, I believe that Leo’s boots will stay on Camp Nou’s pitch.
“I can’t contemplate a no from Messi; he wants to stay. We’re doing what we can but there’s no need to seduce him.”
