The Guendouzi timeline
The future of Arsenal midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has been of much debate for some time with the Frenchman spending the last season on loan at Hertha Berlin.
Signed for Arsenal by their previous recruitment icon Sven Mislintat, whilst Unai Emery was at the helm, the Spanish coach integrated the former Lorient man straight into the Arsenal team. Starting him on the first day in the 2-0 loss to Manchester City.

Guendouzi went on to make 57 appearances for Arsenal under Emery and the now coach Mikel Arteta. But it was under the current regime where the relationship broke down. Reports of a rift between Arteta and Guendouzi surfaced after a 2-1 loss to Brighton in which the Frenchman clashed with compatriot Neal Maupay.
Guendouzi has not featured for Arsenal since the game on the south coast and, as mentioned, spent last season away from North London in Germany.
With him set to return with just a single year left on his contract it appears unlikely that a renewal will take place and that his future will I away from the club.
Marseille ‘accelerate’ plans
The club which is hoping to land the 22-year-old midfielder is French side Marseille.
The club qualified for the Europa League this season in a very competitive Ligue 1. With Lille winning the title ahead of PSG, Monaco and Lyon, Marseille were left to pick up the Europa League spot.
Having sold Morgan Sanson to Aston Villa in January and therefore left with a hole in the central midfield, they are looking for a replacement.

Morgan Sanson tackles Koke during the UEFA Europa League Final between Olympique de Marseille and Club Atletico de Madrid at Stade de Lyon on May 16, 2018 in Lyon, France.
It appears that they wish to fill the hole with the Arsenal youngster and according to Foot Mercato, they are now ‘accelerating’ plans to move for the ex-Lorient man.
Interested for many weeks, Marseille has made great progress in Operation Matteo Guendouzi. Enough to have a smile and believe in it to complete the operation in the coming weeks.
The transfer fee for the player is currently not known but we just a year left on his deal and desperate to leave the club but it is unlikely to be a significant figure.
