Man City vs Chelsea
Saturday’s marquee Premier League fixture will see Manchester City and Chelsea face off at the Etihad.
The tie marks a huge one for both outfits, for differing reasons.
Man City, who currently sit 13 points clear of 2nd-placed Manchester United, will secure their 3rd Premier League title in five years if they manage to pick up a win against Thomas Tuchel’s side.
Chelsea, on the other hand, are still fighting for a top-four finish.
At present, the Blues sit 4th in the English top-flight table, two points adrift of Leicester City in 3rd.
However, West Ham, who have a fairly handy run-in to the campaign, are only behind their London rivals by three points heading into the weekend’s action, meaning Chelsea really cannot afford to drop points.
How Chelsea can close gap on Man City
Ahead of the tie, Thomas Tuchel has of course been discussing Manchester City.
Chelsea under Tuchel have already bested Pep Guardiola’s City in an FA Cup semi-final clash this season.
But Tuchel has now been outlining how the Blues can close the gap on Man City over the course of a 38-game season.
And, Tuchel believes that Chelsea need to fight against the Manchester outfit’s unique consistency:
“First of all, we know we cannot close it anymore this season. They will be champions, hopefully not in this game but in one of the next days, and deserved champions so there is a huge gap because we are battling for the top four and not for the championship right now.
“Their consistency over the last three or four years is unique so that is the challenge for us to fight against. I still say that Bayern Munich and City was the benchmark in Europe, and City is the benchmark in the league, but we are here to fight them and to close the gap.”
