Headache for Tuchel
Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has offered an update on the state of his Chelsea squad ahead of their Champions League final with Manchester City on 29th May.
The Blues were left troubled as Edouard Mendy was forced off at half-time on their final day defeat to Aston Villa after colliding with the post during the first half. Kepa Arrizabalaga was called upon to replace the Senegalese international, a sight which saw Chelsea fans’ hearts sink.
However, Tuchel suggested that Mendy’s injury was not thought to be too serious, with the ‘keeper aiming to be back in full training by Wednesday.
Tuchel: “Nothing has changed [about N’Golo Kanté’s fitness]. For Edu [Mendy], the update is we still have hope that he joins training on Wednesday. He’s made huge improvement in pain management, but we hope to have him back.” #CFC #UCLfinal

Kepa had been the domestic cup goalkeeper for Chelsea this season, but Tuchel wasted no time in re-affirming who his number one was ahead of Saturday’s clash.
Tuchel: “Edou will play if he is fit.”

Kante to play through pain
There was equally encouraging news for Blues fans when it came to N’golo Kante. The Frenchman has been a key component in Chelsea’s route to the final this season, but limped off in their 2-1 win over Leicester City 5 days ago. Tuchel, however, has appeared to suggest that as long as he is even remotely fit, he will be straight into his side to face Manchester City.
Tuchel on Kante’s injury: “We will just put him in training when the game starts on Saturday and not speak to doctors and physios or changing tactics.” Sounds good to me. #CFC

N’golo Kante is critical to Chelsea’s side, especially given the calibre of the opposition that they are facing. If the Blues are to have any chance of winning the Champions League for the first time since 2012, they will need the 31-year-old Frenchman to be fit and available. Even that might not be enough.
No update on Thiago Silva and Giroud
Both Thiago Silva and Olivier Giroud are set to leave the club this summer at present. While there is growing rumours that Thiago Silva will be offered a contract extension for a further year, there is no sign that Giroud will be. If he is indeed released, it would represent an unflattering end to a strong Chelsea career, where the Frenchman has performed well in his limited performances, including goals against Sevilla and Arsenal.
