Report: 27-year-old PL winner wants to join Barcelona, putting pressure on the club – originally posted on Sportslens.com
Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte reportedly wants to join Barcelona in the summer transfer window.
Spanish publication, Sport, have claimed that it will be difficult for Barcelona to sign the French-born Spain international, but it is not impossible.
The 27-year-old defender helped Pep Guardiola’s side win the Premier League title last season, but he could be on his way out.
Barcelona have already signed two players from Man City on free transfers. Sergio Aguero joined the Blaugrana after ending a 10-year golden stint at the club, while Eric Garcia followed him soon after.
Sport claim that Laporte is eager to follow suit as well.
Despite his obvious talents, injuries prevented him from becoming a regular at the back under Guardiola. Last season, he dropped down the pecking order at the club behind Ruben Dias and John Stones.
The former Bilbao defender wants to return to Spain, and he prefers a move to Barcelona. In fact, he is already putting pressure on the Premier League champions to let him go.
Barcelona’s finances are stretched and the club have been severely affected by the pandemic.
It won’t be easy for the Catalan giants to sign the defender, but it seems Laporte is doing everything in his power to make the transfer happen.
City could let some high-profile players leave this summer. The likes of Riyad Mahrez and Raheem Sterling are also facing uncertain futures at the club. It has been reported that City are expecting to raise around £100m from selling Laporte, Mahrez, and Sterling.
