Bale on the market again
Real Madrid are willing to listen to offers for Eden Hazard and Gareth Bale as they target a major overhaul following a disappointing season.
Bale has been at Tottenham Hotspur on loan for the duration of this season, scoring 11 goals in 20 Premier League appearances. Despite his return, however, he could not prevent Spurs from slipping into the Europa Conference League, UEFA’s third-tier competition.
However, the Welshman has been out of favour in Spain, with both sides feeling hard done by. Bale felt that he was unfairly treated by manager Zinedine Zidane, whilst Zidane felt that the winger was never truly living up to his ability.
It came to a head when Bale posed with a “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order” flag after helping Wales qualify for Euro 2020 in November 2019. He would go on to start just six further games for Real Madrid that season.

And now it is believed that Madrid are once again looking for buyers for the 31-year-old winger. Bale himself has said that he has “made a decision” on his future, but that he will wait until after the Euros to announce it, as it would “cause chaos”.
Cutting losses on Hazard
Joining Bale as available for transfer is fellow winger Eden Hazard. There was huge expectation on the Belgian’s shoulders when he signed for the club from Chelsea in 2019, but injuries have ruined his Real Madrid career, and he has made just 43 appearances for Los Blancos since he swapped London for the Spanish capital.

It is unclear whether there will be many suitors for either player, both of whom are the wrong side of 30 years old and both of whom would command large wages. In a time of economic fragility, it may be far harder than anticipated to find buyers for even the most established names.
All out for superstars:
The reason for selling Hazard and Bale? To fund a move for one of the world’s two best marksmen. Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe have both been linked with moves away from their respective clubs, but would command a fee probably in world record-fee territory this summer.

Real Madrid’s moneymaking European Super League scheme was foiled by associations and governments six weeks ago, which means that they will need to raise funds through less nefarious means. The sale of Bale and Hazard is likely to only be the beginning of a summer where it feels that no player is 100% safe.
Let the rumours fly.
