Tight at the top
Zinedine Zidane’s men are set to return to action on Sunday evening.
Los Blancos will make the trip to the Basque country, for a La Liga showdown with Athletic Bilbao.
The clash, of course, marks a crucial one for Real, who remain in the thick of the race for the Spanish top-flight crown.
The latest round of La Liga action saw the title race essentially whittled down to just the giants of Madrid, after Barcelona’s shock stalemate with Levante was followed by respective victories on the part of Real and Atletico.
In turn, Diego Simeone’s men remain on top, albeit by just two points, with two games left to play.
Kroos blow
The upcoming round of La Liga fixtures, meanwhile, will see Atleti play host to Osasuna, whilst Real, as outlined above, make the daunting trip to the San Mames for a meeting with Bilbao.
And, as outlined above, ahead of what could prove a pivotal evening in the race for La Liga supremacy, the latter have this evening been dealt a major blow on the personnel front.
Taking to social media a short time ago, Los Blancos confirmed that Toni Kroos’ participation in the season’s run-in has been thrown up in the air.
This comes after the German midfielder came into ‘direct contact with a person who has tested positive for Covid-19’.
In turn, Kroos, despite returning a negative test himself, has been forced into a period of self isolation:
‘Real Madrid CF reports that our player Toni Kroos is in isolation as he has been in direct contact with a person who has tested positive for Covid-19, although all the tests that have been carried out on the player have been negative.’
