Everton’s supporters have taken to social media in numbers on Saturday, to respond to news of Rafael Benitez’s imminent appointment as the club’s new manager.

Chatter surrounding the managerial position at Goodison Park has of course taken centre stage in the media of late.
This comes with Carlo Ancelotti, just 18 months on from his arrival on Merseyside, having opted to take his talents back to Madrid, following the departure of Zinedine Zidane.
In turn, a whole host of tacticians have been tipped as potential arrivals on the Everton bench, with the likes of Nuno Espirito Santo, Eddie Howe and even former boss David Moyes amongst those linked.
Recent days, though, have seen a clear front-runner emerge in the Toffees’ managerial sweepstakes.
The individual in question? Rafael Benitez.
As per a mounting number of reports, Spanish tactician Benitez is on the verge of putting pen to paper on a contract at Goodison Park, having been identified by Farhad Moshiri as ‘the best available candidate’.

#BenitezOut
To say that news of Benitez’s imminent arrival has not gone down well amongst the Blues fanbase, though, would be putting it lightly.
The 61-year-old is of course no stranger to Merseyside, having taken charge of Liverpool for six years between 2004 and 2010.
And it is such Red links, in addition to the brand of football generally associated with teams led by ‘Rafa’, which have resulted in the Everton faithful speaking out in force against his installment on the club’s bench.
After a clear message was laid out at Goodison Park on Friday, the social media backlash has since proven equally vicious, with some of the highlights showcased below:
Like it or loathe it, this is what happens when you decide to go with one of the most decisive and pathetic appointments for Everton Manager.
Spray painting is shitty and personal insults are uncalled for, but they’ll continue if we keep going with this manager, I’m sure of it. https://t.co/9b28EJeWhF

Do not announce Benitez @Everton

I actually don’t want to hear Rafa Benitez speak at any press conference. It will be nauseating.

No way do I want Benitez in charge his style of football is bland and hes not to be trusted he’ll walk away if the going gets tough ,a dont know why hes even being talked about ,another major mistake by the board ,by the way players have no allegiance only fans love their club

@Everton Hope you’re ready for the earthquake coming your way if you appoint him…. Just as we did with Allardyce, we’ll never stop until he’s gone #BenitezOut

The corruption that runs deep in the @premierleague makes me not want to watch other games and just focus on Everton, if we hire Benitez I won’t even want to do that. Don’t want him anywhere near our club!

Listen to this…..what Duncan describes about Sam Allardyce’s time at EFC and how the fans were is nothing as to how bad it will be if we appoint Benitez. Please don’t do this Everton. We don’t want him and it’s nothing to do with being a red. https://t.co/n2sEOinvLv

A season like we had under Ancelotti will see toxicity at Goodison off the scale under exactly the same season from Benitez, which is what we will have.
It is a stupid move and the Red/Rafa Echo have done their utmost to engineer it.— Գրեգորի Zebulun #BLM ????????????? (@Master2020The) June 26, 2021
