Pochettino thought Mbappe would ‘be there’
PSG are becoming increasingly concerned about the likelihood of Kylian Mbappe’s presence at the Champions League semi-final between the Frech champions and Manchester City.
After the weekend game, Mauricio Pochettino gave journalists some confidence that the French international would make it.
“Will Mbappe be there? I’m optimistic. We think he will be there. We will see how it evolves tomorrow. We will decide before the match,” he said.

PSG came away with a 2-1 victory over a spirited Lens team and Pochettino said that winning was more important than playing good football.
“We had to win today, and Tuesday [we have to] score two goals and not concede,” said the former Spurs boss.
“The most important thing will be to win, more than playing good football. We’re going to give it a try and we’re focused on this City game and the tactics we should put in place.”
The race for the Ligue 1 title is quite incredible for a league often seen as PSG’s to lose.
Lille remain top of the table, 1 point above the French capital club.
Lyon won in Monaco in a crazy 3-2 game in which 5 players were sent off at the match’s conclusion.
Mbappe looking likely to miss out
Despite the confidence from Pochettino, French outlet RMC Sport claim that the likelihood is continually diminishing that Mbappe makes the tie.
Reporter Loic Tazi wrote:
The optimism that has emerged around the presence of the world champion is no longer so topical internally.
For the past few hours, caution has remained with the player , and this Monday night’s session on City’s lawn promises to be decisive. Kylian Mbappé will test there, with high intensity races to see if he will be able to start on Tuesday.
At the weekend, Mauro Icardi started up top with Neymar, Pablo Sarabia and Julian Draxler playing in behind.
Moise Kean came off the bench whilst Angel Di Maria was rested entirely.
Pochettino does have options, but the once confident Argentine will be sincerely concerned now.
