Pochettino blames schedule on PSG title loss
Lille won their first title in 10 years after overcoming the odds and Paris Saint-Germain to secure Ligue 1.
After the final match, a somber Mauricio Pochettino was asked about losing the race and blamed the side’s fixture schedule.
“I think it’s important to put everything in context and to look at what happened in January,” Pochettino said. “We arrived and had no time to work, but we were welcomed really well by the club and the players.

“We were playing every three days and we made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League, beating Bayern Munich and Barcelona. We won the Trophee des Champions and the Coupe de Franc, which was important for the team.
“But Paris Saint-Germain will always be disappointed when finishing in second. We need to use the experience for the future of the club and of course to change things.
“It’s important for the club to improve and we believe that we can get better. We are going to work hard for that to happen.”
PSG have work to do in the summer to build a squad to try and reclaim the French league. Lille will likely see a number of players targeted by clubs elsewhere, maybe even PSG themselves.
The Champions League has always been the priority ambition and they could see their old coach achieve that this week.
Levy regrets Poch sacking
Spurs sacked Pochettino after 5 years and no trophies. Reports suggest chairman Daniel Levy has admitted to some he ‘made a mistake’ in getting rid of the former Southampton boss.
Pochettino took over from Thomas Tuchel at PSG earlier this season, who has since gone on to take Chelsea to the Champions League final.
Spurs meanwhile have fallen and finished in 7th place outside the Europa League spots and will be the inaugural English side in the UEFA Conference League next season.

It is said Pochettino would be open to a return although the timing feels strange considering how long he has been in France. Leaving PSG could be looked at as one of the biggest failures to not win the French title during a full season.
Pochettino’s decision though will ultimately be his but the likes of Graham Potter and Nuno Espirito Santo have also been linked with the vacant Spurs role.
