Blues stint
Dutch midfielder van Ginkel first linked up with Chelsea all the way back in the summer of 2013.
The now 28-year-old made the move to London from boyhood club Vitesse, for a fee thought to be in the region of £8 million.
Van Ginkel, though, subsequently went on to endure a somewhat bizarre stint with the Pensioners.
All told, he managed just 2 league appearances in the club’s colours, with the 8-time capped international’s Chelsea spell having been dominated by loan stints away from Stamford Bridge.
The most recent of these temporary moves saw van Ginkel return to his home country of the Netherlands with PSV this past season, three years on from starring en route to 16 goals and 5 assists in 31 Eredivisie outings at the Philips Stadion.
Fresh off the back of a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a knee injury, however, the midfielder proved considerably less productive this time around.
Van Ginkel racked up just 12 appearances across all competitions, finding the net once in the process.
MvG departs
But, as outlined above, the struggles of their temporary addition in the middle of the park evidently failed to put those in a position of power at PSV off his talents.
Instead, the Dutch giants have today swooped to bring van Ginkel back to the club, on a permanent basis.
With Chelsea having opted against offering their long-time midfielder a new deal in west London, van Ginkel has finally brought an end to his 8-year long Blues stint, hopeful of a more successful, and injury-free spell in his home country over the seasons to come.
PSV announced the news across the club’s social media platforms a short time ago, with van Ginkel having put pen to paper on a two-year deal:
