Manchester United look to have been dealt a blow in their reported pursuit of Real Madrid and France star, Raphael Varane.

Varane’s Madrid future
Varane joined Real Madrid in 2011, departing French outfit Lens for a fee believed to be around £9m.
Varane was only 18 years of age when he made the move to the Bernabeu, so £9m, at the time, looked a fairly considerable sum.
However, he has since gone on to establish himself as a key cog in Madrid’s backline.
All told, the Frenchman has notched 360 appearances across all competitions for Real, playing a pivotal role in their recent domestic and Champions League success.
However, Varane’s future in the Spanish capital now appears to be up in the air.
This comes with the stopper having just one year to run on his contract with Madrid and reports earlier his year having suggested that Los Blancos are not expecting their defensive star to renew his deal.
Varane to stay at Real?
With Varane obviously a quality defender and potentially available slightly cheaper than normal due to his contract situation, top clubs have, of course, been linked with the Frenchman.
Manchester United have been one of the sides most heavily linked with the 28-year-old.
However, as mentioned above, Man United look to have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Varane.
As per the Telegraph:
Manchester United’s pursuit of Raphael Varane this summer has been complicated by Sergio Ramos’s shock departure from Real Madrid.
They go on to explain that whilst United have identified Varane as a leading centre-back candidate, Madrid are being forced to rethink their position on Varane due to Ramos leaving.
It is added that Real are now due to open talks with Varane to try and extend his deal.
