Liverpool ‘submit offer’ for Roma’s Lorenzo Pellegrini

Reports stemming from Italy suggest Liverpool have submitted an offer for AS Roma and Italy star, Lorenzo Pellegrini.

Lorenzo Pellegrini would join current side AS Roma in 2017, departing fellow Italian outfit Sassuolo for a fee believed to be £9m.

This was the second time Pellegrini would sign for Roma, after the now 24-year-old had spent much of his youth career with the capital outfit.

Pellegrini has, all told, gone on to feature 152 times for his boyhood club. In said ties the midfielder has managed to score 21 and assist 34.

The Italian, despite still being fairly young, also spent much of the second half of 2020/21 as Roma’s captain.

Now, as mentioned above, Pellegrini appears to be attracting interest from a top Premier League side.

That team is Liverpool, who are now likely in the market for a central midfielder with Georginio Wijnaldum departing the club this month when his contract expires.

Pellegrini, on paper, seems like a solid replacement for the Dutchman as like Wijnaldum, he can operate well at both ends of the pitch.

Granted, the 17-time capped international is slightly more attack-minded then Wijnaldum, but he would still likely fit into Jurgen Klopp’s system.

And, as per the Evening Standard, citing Italian outlet Corriere dello Sport, Liverpool have submitted an offer worth £25.8m for Pellegrini.
