Liverpool’s resurgence
To say Liverpool’s 2020/21 campaign has not gone to plan would be putting it lightly.
The Reds were of course heading into the season looking to defend their Premier League crown.
However, a series of injury woes and some horrible injury luck put an end to those ambitions fairly quickly.
All of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Jordan Henderson have suffered lengthy injury layoffs this term, with a whole host of other Liverpool stars also suffering injury issues throughout the campaign.
This, in turn, led to the Reds dropping some way away from the Champions League places, with even a top-six finish, at one point in the season, looking unlikely for Liverpool.
Now, though, a recent resurgence, which was seen Liverpool win their last four Premier League games, means the Merseysiders are firmly back in the hunt for a top-four finish.
How much Liverpool will earn from Champions League qualification
Heading into the final game week of the season, Liverpool are sat 4th in the Premier League table. However, Leicester City are only behind them due to a worse goal difference.
So, Liverpool need to win against Crystal Palace on Sunday and hope Leicester do not beat their opponent by a fairly large scoreline (at least 6-0).
Should Liverpool win this game, the impact on the club is likely to be fairly big.
The Champions League, of course, offers a sizable amount of money to all teams participating.
And, as reported by the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool qualifying for the Champions League would see them handed £58m just for making it into the competition.
All told, the money distributed to CL clubs stands at £2.2b. In comparison, the Europa League only has a prize pot of £483m, showing just how much better a Champions League qualification spot is for any side.
