Phillips’ Liverpool stint
Nat Phillips would join Liverpool on a free transfer in 2016 after departing Bolton’s youth ranks.
After making the switch to Merseyside, Phillips would spend a few years honing his craft in Liverpool’s youth ranks before being loaned out to VfB Stuttgart for the 2019/20 campaign.
The now 24-year-old featured 22 times for Stuttgart before returning to Liverpool last summer.
Despite having a decent stint in Germany, it did not look likely that Phillips would be earning regular football at Anfield in 2020/21.
However, after Liverpool experienced some horrible injury luck, Phillips became a regular in the Reds’ backline.
All of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip have suffered lengthy injuries this term.
And when Jordan Henderson and Fabinho helped fill the void at centre-back, they too also picked up issues, with Henderson only returning this weekend vs Crystal Palace.
In turn, Klopp would opt to use Phillips at centre-back a fair bit over recent months.
All told, Phillips has featured on 20 occasions this season, with 17 of those outings in the Premier League and three in the Champions League.
Liverpool could sell Phillips
And though Phillips obviously isn’t at the level of a van Dijk, he still formed a decent partnership with Ozan Kabak during the second half of the season.
Despite this, Phillips’ future with Liverpool looks to be up in the air.
According to a recent report from the Sun, Liverpool will sell Nat Phillips in the summer, but only if they get a major offer.
No potential suitors are mentioned in the piece, but it is claimed Phillips could command a £10m fee.
