Kabak’s Liverpool stint
Liverpool of course signed Ozan Kabak on loan from Schalke during the winter window.
The Reds have had a nightmare campaign when it comes to injuries, with all of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip sidelined with long-term issues.
Fabinho and Jordan Henderson, in turn, were forced to drop deep to help with the Reds’ centre-back woes. However, both have endured injury problems of their own, with Henderson still out of action at present.
So, it wasn’t too much of a shock to see both Kabak and Ben Davies brought to Anfield earlier this year.
Davies has not really featured since his arrival on Merseyside. But Kabak has been one of Jurgen Klopp’s most consistent starters of late.
Granted, it has been far from plain sailing. But the Turkish international has now formed a fairly decent partnership with Nat Phillips.
Klopp on Kabak
Kabak’s future on Merseyside, though, remains up in the air at present.
When the 21-year-old joined Liverpool, it was reported that the Reds secured an option to buy for an initial fee of £18m, with the potential to rise to £26.5m.
Liverpool, at present, do not look to have taken up said option.
And, when asked about Kabak’s future recently, Jurgen Klopp’s response also shed little light on the situation.
The Liverpool boss praised the Turkish international’s impact so far, but when it came to his future, Klopp insisted they would discuss it after the final game of the season:
“Ozan was absolutely incredible, he did a great job. Not to forget he is a young, young boy with incredible experience already. He has been with different clubs, moved early from Turkey to Germany and played at two big clubs in Germany in difficult situations which were obviously not his fault, we could all see that when he arrived here.
“Yes, he took a little bit of time to adapt but he did super things for us. I don’t know how many games out but against Leipzig he was incredible, we knew how good Leipzig could be.
“About the future, we will talk about it and decide about it after the last match. There is obviously enough time for that, nothing else really to say about that.”
