‘Does he do quizzes in the evening?’
England saw off Romania on Sunday in their final friendly clash before Euro 2020.
The Three Lions came away with a 1-0 win after Marcus Rashford stepped up to convert a spot-kick won by Jack Grealish.
In the UK, the game would be broadcast on ITV with Roy Keane one of the pundits discussing it.
The former Manchester United man would be drawn on Jordan Henderson whislt covering the game.
Henderson had been out of action since February and was only able to come on for the second half vs Romania.
As a result, Keane voiced his opinion that Henderson should not be involved with England:
“I think it’s a huge distraction – he’s clearly not fit.
“I don’t think he should be involved. If he can’t start against Romania, he’s not fit.
“Physically and mentally, this game won’t be that tough for him to deal with, he’s an experienced player.
“He’s not kicked a ball for three and a half months and he’s going to European Championship? He can’t be right.”
Kean then continued to question why people would want Henderson around the camp just for the sake of it:
“I’ve heard a lot of people say they want him around the place. For what?
“Does he do card tricks? Does he have a sing-song? Does he do quizzes in the evening? What does he do?
“Liverpool won’t be happy either.
“Surely Jordan doesn’t want to be around the place being some sort of cheerleader, you want to play and clearly he’s nowhere near it.”
Henderson responds to Keane
Henderson has since responded to these claims made by Keane.
And the Liverpool skipper did not seem too phased by them and actually claimed he found them quite funny:
“To be fair to Roy, he can say whatever he wants about me. He gave me my debut [at Sunderland] and I wouldn’t be here without him giving me that.
“I found it quite funny, actually.”
Henderson continued:
“Listen, we know a little bit more detail [about my condition], I know more detail and so does the manager, which Roy may not.
“But in terms of stuff like that, everyone’s going to have an opinion, everybody’s going to think they know better than everybody else.
“But for me all my focus has been on the last couple of months is working as hard as I possibly can to be in a position where I can contribute in the tournament and I’m very thankful I’m in that position now.”
#Eng Jordan Henderson has laughed off criticism from Roy Keane over his inclusion in the squad and says he is ready to start against Croatia if called upon. https://t.co/gluyi6sQvJ
