West Ham secure Europa League football
After they only just avoided relegation last season, it is hard to imagine anyone predicting West Ham would go on to have the 2020/21 they did.
The Hammers had a superb season which, at one point, saw them challenging for the top-four.
A Champions League finish, in the end, was not forthcoming for the Londoners, but they can still be extremely proud of what they achieved.
Wins against West Brom and Southampton in the final two game weeks would be enough to secure them a 6th place finish in the Premier League, earning them a Europa League spot and perhaps more importantly, avoiding the Europa Conference League place, which is now Spurs’.
Lingard’s watch stolen
Jesse Lingard would of course be key to the London outfit securing a European berth for 2021/22.
Despite only joining the club in the winter window on loan from Manchester United, Lingard went on to net nine and provide five assists in 16 league outings for David Moyes’ side.
One game Lingard was unable to contribute in was against Everton on May 9th, when West Ham lost 1-0.
Said game, which took place at the London Stadium, has since been brought back into the spotlight for the wrong reasons.
According to the Daily Mail, Lingard was forced to call the police after his watch was stolen from the team’s guarded dressing room during the Everton game.
It is added that West Ham’s dressing room at their stadium is said to be heavily guarded during games and covered by CCTV, which left players confused as to how a thief could have got in to steal said watch.
Does Lingard have a West Ham future?
Now, Lingard is set to return to Manchester United after his loan stint finished.
West Ham fans, though, will no doubt be keen to see the 28-year-old return next summer, but will that happen?
A recent report from The Athletic suggests perhaps not, with doubt cast over West Ham’s financial ability to work out a transfer.
#WHUFC‘s chances of signing Jesse Lingard on a permanent deal appear to be fading. https://t.co/RvPWKfADP7
