Liverpool’s top strikers
Over the decades Liverpool have had some top, top strikers on their books.
Ian Rush remains the Reds’ all-time top goalscorer, notching over 300 goals in all competitions and guiding them to five league titles, countless domestic cups and two European Cups.
Kenny Daglish would also net over 100 times for Liverpool and played a big role in their dominance over England’s top-flight between the late 70s and 80s.
Elsewhere, Robbie Fowler and Michael Own impressed at Anfield in the modern era, scoring over 150 goals each for Liverpool.
Carragher picks Suarez
However, it is none of the above players who Jamie Carragher believes to be Liverpool’s best striker.
Instead, the former Liverpool defender has handed that accolade to Luis Suarez.
Suarez spent just over three years on Liverpool’s books between 2011 and 2014, scoring 82 goals and providing 47 assists in 133 outings.
31 of those goals and 17 of those assists came in the 2013/14 Premier League campaign, in which Brendan Rodgers Liverpool came so close to putting an end to their long wait for a league title, but lost it right at the end with that loss to Chelsea and a 3-3 draw with Crystal Palace.
That, however, did not stop Carragher from naming Suarez as Liverpool’s best striker:
“You realise how lucky we’ve been at Liverpool really with strikers.
“You maybe go back as far as Kenny [Dalglish], Ian Rush, Robbie Fowler comes and you think you’ll lose these players and you never replace them and then you get Torres, you get Suarez, you get Michael Owen as well.
“We’ve had some unbelievable strikers, but, if I was picking one, I’d pick Luis Suarez as the best.”
