This is called a big mess. Recruited last season to try to put an end to Juventus’ hegemony in Serie A, Antonio Conte quickly swayed the Old Lady in the league. After finishing the 2019/2020 season a small point behind champion bianconero, Inter Milan has exploded everything in its path this year. Winners of the Scudetto eleven years after their last triumph, the Nerazzurri could thank their coach.
Wishing to permanently install the Lombard formation at the top of the ranking, Antonio Conte was also keen to redeem himself on the European scene after the fiasco of this year (Inter finished last in their group in the Champions League). And for that, the Italian hoped to have the means for his ambitions. Unfortunately for him, the Inter owner has other plans. And Conte got fed up.
Inter want to roll in the economy
The Gazzetta dello Sport and Sky Italia announce in chorus that the transalpine technician will return his apron and that the case could be formalized within the next 48 hours. The daily pink paper indeed reports that Conte met with his leaders before the last game of the season against Udinese. The day before, the interior board played cards on the table with its coach concerning the financial situation of the club.
Faced with serious financial difficulties, Inter has planned to reduce the payroll by 15 to 20%, but that’s not all. The Italian champions also want to complete the next summer transfer window with profits of around 80 to 100 M €. A plan that leaves no chance for large investments to strengthen. What strongly annoy a Conte tired of seeing that his work for two years is likely to be wasted. It remains to be seen whether he intends to resign or if he will find a financial agreement with Inter, his contract running until 2022.
