CR7 at the double
Ronaldo’s Portugal of course faced off with Rossi’s Hungary last week, in the respective nations’ Euro 2020 opener.
The former were widely expected to simply steamroll their underdog hosts at the Ferenc Puskas Stadium, amid efforts to secure back-to-back European Championship titles.
In turn, when a full 83 minutes had passed, and Portugal were yet to find the target, nerves began to mount amongst A Selecao’s fans.
Raphael Guerreiro’s deflected strike from the edge of the area, though, soon saw the floodgates open in Budapest.

Before Hungary even had the opportunity to gather themselves, the game was then put to bed as a contest, when Cristiano Ronaldo stepped up to slot home from the penalty spot.
And, deep into injury-time, CR7 was back at it again, putting some gloss on the scoreline courtesy of a moment of individual brilliance:
‘Notice these things…’
As outlined above, though, whilst Ronaldo’s opening day double went down understandably well amongst the 36-year-old’s worldwide fanbase, one individual who was left altogether unimpressed by his actions was Hungary manager Marco Rossi.
When drawn on the Juventus star’s exploits against his side during an interview on Friday, Rossi highlighted what he labelled as an ‘annoying’ trait on Ronaldo’s part.
This comes in the form of the attacker’s at times over the top celebrations, with the Magyars boss having explained:
‘Ronaldo is a great champion but at times he can be annoying. After the penalty against us he celebrated as if he had scored in the final. People notice these things.’
