Denmark smash Russia to qualify
Denmark, despite all the odds, managed to batter Russia 4-1 in Copenhagen to qualify for the knockout stages.
Their win was enough, thanks to Belgium beating Finland, to send them through to the next round.
Goals from Mikkel Damsgaard, Yussuf Poulsen, Andreas Christensen and Joakim Maehle were more than enough to cancel out Artem Dzyuba’s 70′ penalty.

How did Eriksen react
Christian Eriksen’s collapse will be the memorable moment of the tournament. Suffering a cardiac arrest in Denmark’s match with Finland.
However, now discharged from hospital and on the road to recovery, Eriksen immediately celebrated by messaging his teammates.
“Christian immediately wrote to us in our group. It is fantastic that he supports us and is there for us,” said teammate Jens Stryger Larsen
Eriksen also posted on his Instagram story.

Danish coach’s symbol
Denmark coach Kasper Hjulmand said for the first time in his life he had worn jewellery for the match for a very special reason.
“I am super proud on behalf of the boys, and how it would have been undeserved if we had not gotten something out of this European Championship. Like I said, I have never gone with jewellery in my life. This is the first time I’m wearing jewellery. There is a little football on it,” said the national coach.
He explained how it was his way of having Eriksen with the team when he couldn’t be on the pitch or in the stands.
“It’s Christian who’s here, so we want to take him with us,” said Hjulmand
“I had him with me all the way. I think about him a lot. As I have always said, he is our heart, our rhythm. We smashed through for his sake today. He is a great inspiration for all of us.”

Christiansen’s celebration
Andreas Christensen is having a hell of a season. Firstly coming off the bench for Thiago Silva in the Champions League final to put in a world class display and help his side win the tournament, to now pushing Denmark’s revival in the group with an insane strike.
It will rival Patrik Schick’s goal for the best of the competition, but the context and the atmosphere with it might just clinch it.

His celebration saw the Danes grab their ears and Christensen revealed the meaning behind it.
“It is an internal joke about me because I have won the ‘trophy with the big ears’” he said.
Denmark will play Wales in the last 16 with a hope of reaching the quarter final.
