Kane Barca’s plan C
Barcelona are in the market for a striker this summer with a clear lack of goalscoring threat costing them on the European stage and seemingly La Liga too after a pivotal title clash with Atletico Madrid ended 0-0.
Spanish outlet Sport claim that there are three names on the list in order of preference. At the top lies Erling Haaland, followed by Lautaro Martinez and finally Harry Kane acts as the club’s plan C choice.
Haaland is the desired strategic signing and there are serious hopes at the club to get the operation back on track despite Dortmund’s refusal to sell him. Lautaro would already be almost the only plan B given the lack of consensus generated by Harry Kane, who was willing to come to the Camp Nou.
Kane’s camp have contacted Barcelona but the reasoning given by Sport is that the Blaugrana find English players struggle with the transition to Spain.
The player’s environment has spoken with Barça, but there is no consensus in the club due to the difficult adaptation that English players have to Spain.
However, the words from one of their preferred targets means Kane could be who they end up targeting.
Lautaro’s wanted Inter stay
The possibility of Barcelona managing to convince Lautaro Martinez to leave Inter Milan seems small with his most recent comments on his future a clear indication of his intent to remain with the Nerazzurri.
“Yes, Barcelona wanted me a year back. But I said to Conte: ‘Don’t worry, I’m focussed on Inter,” he said.
“Barca for me is in the past, I’m staying at Inter.”

Of course all players and clubs have their price, but it would seemingly take a monster bid and wage packet to get Lautaro to change his mind.
Haaland’s future unclear
Erling Haaland’s father and agent Mino Raiola have already met with Barcelona officials to talk about a possible summer move.

The Norwegian has a buyout clause which activates in 2022 but this has opened the door to theories that BVB would accept a serious fee this summer to cash in while they can.
However, due to Barcelona’s financial situation, reports suggest they would prefer to wait until the following summer to make their move if Haaland was prepared to wait.
Wrote abt Haaland’s future. Release clause (+ pandemic) have turned usual economic/sporting incentives on head. Team Haaland hold all cards. Logic suggests no move until summer 2022. (Of course, clubs have been irrational actors before+might be again)

It seems that Barca would have to bank on Haaland preferring a move to the Camp Nou over the likes of Real Madrid, Manchester City, Chelsea or Bayern Munich. Dortmund will be happy to hold onto the Norwegian for their 2021/22 campaign and cash in for serious money later.
