Super league consequences

As expected there has been consequences given to the clubs which were involved in the prospective plans for a Super League.

Specifically for the English based clubs involved in the 12 team initiates, a 20 million fine has been given to them along with threats of possible points deductions should any attempt a similar plan in the future.

The UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin did note that the 6 English teams would see separate punishment in comparison to the other 6 who took longer to pull out with Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid still involved in the Fiasco having not conceded their involvement.

“But for me it’s a clear difference between the English clubs and the other six. They pulled out first, they admitted they made a mistake. You have to have some greatness to say ‘I was wrong,’” he said.

“For me there are three groups of this 12 – the English six, who went out first, then the other three after them and then the ones who feel that Earth is flat and they think the Super League still exists. And there is a big difference between those. But everyone will be held responsible. In what way, we will see.

“I don’t want to say disciplinary process but it has to be clear that everyone has to be held responsible in a different way. Is it disciplinary? Is it the decision of the executive committee? We will see. It’s too early to say.”

Questions will be asked by fans as to whether or not this fine will impact their summer transfer plans, but two of the club’s owners are already said to be paying the fine.

Glazers and KSE foot the bill

Both Manchester United and Arsenal supporters can be rest assured that the financial implications of their Super League involvement will be dealt with by their owners.

As reported by Simon Stone of the BBC, the Glazer family will pay the fine. But Stone does point out that the Glazers have taken dividend payments out of the club which could be argued pay for the fine.

Glazer family to pay @ManUtd Premier League ‘fine’ for Super League involvement not the club (obvious argument about where family have got their money from given dividend payments etc).

At an Arsenal fan forum Josh Kroenke, son of owner Stan Kroenke, told supporters at a fan forum that KSE would pay for any fines, then rumoured to be in the region of £8 – it is officially more than double that figure.

“To the first part of your question regarding the financial aspect, as I’ve stated on the call previously KSE is covering all outside costs related to the Super League. The club is not incurring anything,” he said when asked about the paying method of the fine.

KSE too have taken money out of the club in the past which effectively covers the cost.

The £3m paid to KSE for ‘consultancy’ two years ago will be small change once Arsenal is in private hands. Means Kroenke can award himself whatever dividend he chooses to take from club money while charging exhorbitant ‘management fees’. All without any transparency whatsoever https://t.co/RuJ9wndfya

There is an element of irony for Gunners supporters that the owners could have spent more on fines over their actions to include the club in the Super League proposals, than they have on transfers. This despite Josh stating in the same call that they have ‘big plans’ to invest.
