Last-16 awaits

The final round of group stage fixtures at Euro 2020 were of course played out a little over 24 hours ago.

A pair of pulsating meetings between Germany and Hungary, and Portugal and France, brought an apt close to not only the competition’s ‘Group of Death’, but its opening round as a whole.

An action-packed couple of weeks, complete with stunning goals, red cards, controversial decisions and shock results, has since culminated in eight nations being sent on their way.

The sides in question? Turkey, Finland, Russia, North Macedonia, Scotland, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary.

For the remaining 16 nations, though, attentions will now turn to the Euros’ first round of knockout fixtures.

Saturday will see Wales and Denmark get the action underway, before Italy and Austria do battle a short time later. The ensuing three days, meanwhile, feature a host of mouthwatering ties, including showdowns between both England and Germany, and Belgium and Portugal.

Foden & Gundogan amongst those at risk

Ahead of the Last-16 action getting underway, though, which nations have been left to sweat over the potential availability of their stars for the tournament’s quarter-finals?

The current Euros format means that any player who picks up two yellow cards (or a red) before the completion of the last-8 round of fixtures will be suspended for a single game.

In turn, below you can find a comprehensive list of those one booking away from a suspension:

– Stefan Lainer, David Alaba, Daniel Bachmann

– Thorgan Hazard

– Duje Caleta-Car, Mateo Kovacic, Marcelo Brozovic

– Lukas Masopust, Adam Hlozek

– Mikkel Damsgaard, Daniel Wass, Mathias Jensen, Thomas Delaney
