Tomori’s career stuttered
Fikayo Tomori’s time at Stamford Bridge has come to an end.
The 23-year-old defender made 27 appearances in blue, but fell out of favour towards the end of 2019-2020 and made just one appearance for Chelsea in the first half of 2020-21.
However, a loan spell with AC Milan kickstarted Tomori’s career back into life. Joining the Rossoneri in January, Tomori went on to make 17 Serie A appearances for the Milanese club, scoring one goal in the process.
The Englishman particularly impressed in AC Milan’s 3-0 demolition of former champions Juventus, dealing with Cristiano Ronaldo expertly and popping up with the third goal, which he nodded in from a corner.
What a night for Fikayo Tomori. Pocketed Cristiano Ronaldo in his own back yard and scored the third in a huge 3-0 victory against Juventus.

On the other hand, Chelsea clearly did not miss the youngster, winning the Champions League at the end of 2020-21. With a host of centre backs already on the books, including Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma, it is clear that it is best for all parties for Tomori to move on.
Release Clause triggered
When Tomori joined the Italian club on loan, a 28.5 million euro option to buy was inserted into the deal.
Milan have been keen on activating the clause for some time following the impact the defender had on their side, and according to transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, they have now officially triggered the clause to keep Tomori at the San Siro on a permanent basis.

Tomori can count himself unlucky not to be in the England squad for the European Championships, such was his level of performance in Italy.
This will have come as a relief to Milan, however, who will now be able to integrate the ex-Chelsea man into a full pre-season, a luxury afforded to few of the clubs around them.
