Rio Ferdinand has told incoming Manchester United man Jadon Sancho to ‘immerse himself’ at the club.
United have pursued the England international for the past year, having been unable to secure his services last summer.
A transfer is now imminent after they agreed an €85million (£72.6m) deal with Borussia Dortmund.
The EFL are embarrassing themselves with Derby chaos
Speaking about Sancho, Ferdinand said on his FIVE YouTube channel: “I don’t need to tell him this because he loves his football, but work hard and make sure everything you do is about being a success at Manchester United and being the best you can be.
“Don’t let nothing sidetrack you. Be yourself, entertain and the end product is what you’re about. Bring that to the table.
“The energy and the focus should be solely on football. Just immerse yourself in everything about the club.”
Sancho has emerged as a top target for United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to fill their right wing position.
He will feature alongside Edinson Cavani and Marcus Rashford in attack next season as they look to challenge rivals Manchester City for the title.
Ferdinand, clearly ecstatic about the signing, continued: “Sancho’s arrived, Sancho’s here! I feel beautiful man.
“This boy, just look at his stats, they don’t lie. In terms of goal involvements he was the second most over three seasons – that’s a fact.
“He’s got to convert that to the Premier League which is difficult, we’ve seen that, but listen, I believe in Jadon Sancho.
“Since he was a kid, he’s had hot press, hot expectations, he had the bravery to leave Man City and go abroad. Personality, character.”
The 21-year-old has become a Dortmund star since joining from City four years ago.
He’s managed an impressive 50 goals in 137 appearances for the German side, including 16 during the season just finished.
Sancho is currently on international duty with England at Euro 2020. However, he’s spent most of his time on the bench due to the form of Raheem Sterling, Bukayo Saka and Jack Grealish.
The player will be hoping to make an impact at Old Trafford next term once his transfer is complete.
