Aston Villa shot-stopper Emiliano Martinez etched his name into the club’s history books this evening, versus Everton.

Dean Smith’s men welcomed the Toffees to Villa Park a short time ago, for a Premier League showdown.
The clash was of little importance to the hosts, who have of course long seen their early-season European hopes left dead in the water.
For Everton, though, the outcome of Thursday’s action was crucial.
Carlo Ancelotti’s men remain in the thick of the top-6 battle, and were aware ahead of kick-off that a victory would have seen them climb clear of not only Tottenham, but also Merseyside rivals Liverpool.
When all was said and done at Villa Park, however, the visitors came up short.
A disappointing 90 minutes of action, during which both sides struggled to carve out clear-cut chances, eventually played out into a 0-0 stalemate.
Everton did enjoy the better of the opportunities, particularly in the 2nd-half, but were met by an ever-impressive Emi Martinez in the Aston Villa net:

Exceptional Emi
On the back of playing a key role in his latest clean sheet, meanwhile, an eye-catching statistic has since come to the fore, highlighting just how impressive Martinez has truly been since making the move to Villa Park last summer.
As revealed by Sky, tonight’s came as the Argentine’s 15th Premier League clean sheet of the season.
This marks a joint-record in the colours of the Claret and Blue, only previously matched by Brad Friedel during the 2009/10 campaign.
