Former Manchester United and Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck is set to miss Brighton and Hove Albion’s final game of the season away to Arsenal. The 30-year-old striker has missed eight league games for the Seagulls this season due to knee problems, but still sits second in the goal charts for Graham Potter’s side.

Arsenal reunion hopes dashed
Welbeck was a fan favourite at Arsenal, despite limited game time. Signing for the Gunners from Manchester United for £18m in the summer of 2014, the English forward netted 32 times in 126 appearances for the North London club, providing an additional 15 assists.
It was not the volume of goals that Welbeck scored that really endeared him to Arsenal fans, but the importance of the goals that he scored. Notably, the last-minute winner against Leicester City in the 2015/16 season and multiple FA cup tie-winning goals against his old side granted him almost cult-hero status at the Emirates.

However, Welbeck limped off with what appeared to be a hamstring injury in Brighton’s 3-2 win over Manchester City on Tuesday evening, and Potter suggests that he is a major doubt for the final game of the season. The Brighton boss, when asked, responded by saying:
“Looks like he will miss Arsenal but we will see how bad it is.”
Forward issues for the Seagulls
This would leave Brighton short of options at the top of the pitch after Neil Maupay had his suspension increased having been found guilty of abusive language towards referee John Moss after the final whistle in Brighton’s defeat against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Other options for Graham Potter include Percy Tau, Aaron Connolly and Alexis Mac Allister, however the trio have managed just three Premier League goals between them this season, which makes Welbeck’s injury even more distressing for the Seasiders.
