Palace, Burnley target free Lundstram
Sheffield United risk losing one of their key midfielders ahead of their season in the Championship looking to return to the Premier League as soon as possible.
John Lundstram became a key part of Chris Wilder’s midfield during their promotion and initial season in the Premier League.
The arrival of Sander Berge did limit his opportunities and this led to the player questioning his future and ultimately rejecting the offer of a new deal.
The Star reports that with his deal expiring 3 clubs are looking at his services.
Lundstram turned them down in favour of a free-transfer move elsewhere, with Rangers, Burnley and Crystal Palace amongst the clubs linked with him.
Burnley and Sean Dyche are under new ownership and expected to make more moves in the market but a free signing like Lundstram would be seen as good business. Palace meanwhile are losing a number of players to contract expiration and therefore signing players on a “free” makes a lot of sense.
“Lord Lundstram” cult hero
John Lundstram was one of the most well-known players in the Premier League to supporters for his 19/20 Fantasy Football exploits.
Listed as a defender in the game at the start of the season, Lundstram was deployed in midfield and often found himself in the box, picking up points for goals and assists.
He was interviewed in a hilarious BBC5Live chat where he revealed his mates were loving his performances for their teams.
“All my mates were saying to me; ‘You’re down as a defender’,” Lundstram said.
“I didn’t know because I don’t play it, but I get more texts about how I’m doing in fantasy football than I do for my performances on the pitch.”
