Juve floundering
Speculation surrounding the future of Portuguese legend Ronaldo has of course returned to the fore in a major way of late.
This comes with the 36-year-old’s current club, Italian giants Juventus, enduring a campaign to forget.
The Bianconeri’s decision to take a chance on Andrea Pirlo last summer has since largely backfired, with Juve having of course first been ousted from the Champions League in embarrassing fashion by FC Porto.
Not only that, but, as things stand, the perennial Serie A champions are not even in line for a return to European football’s elite club competition.
Pirlo’s men, having long surrendered their Scudetto crown to Inter Milan, sit in 5th in the Serie A table, with two gameweeks remaining.
In turn, if results do not go their way over the weeks ahead, the Old Lady face a season in the Europa League, an almost unfathomable situation for a club who, before this season, had bagged nine league titles on the bounce.
‘Bring him back…’
Such woes, meanwhile, have inevitably resulted in chatter beginning to spread regarding Juventus’ star performers.
The likes of Paulo Dybala, Matthijs de Ligt and, most notably, the aforementioned Ronaldo will see their respective futures thrown up in the air in the summer, if a top-4 berth is not secured.
The latter has already been tipped for potential moves to the likes of PSG and even Manchester United, but, as outlined above, if the latest comments on the part of a close family member are anything to go by, then Ronaldo could in fact be in line for a return to another of his former clubs.
Speaking to fans from her balcony on the back of Sporting CP’s first league title for 19 years, Dolores Aveiro, CR7’s mother, was drawn on the Portuguese’s plans.
And Aveiro went on to confirm her intention to push Ronaldo back towards the Jose Alvalade, explaining:
‘I’ll talk to him [Cristiano] to bring him back.’
‘Next year he will play in Alvalade [Sporting’s stadium].’
