Chelsea’s ‘overriding priority’ for summer transfer window revealed

Chelsea’s 2020/21 has been fairly mixed so far, though it still has the potential to be great.

The Blues would, despite a slight dip in form at the end of the Premier League season, still scrape the top-four after Leicester City’s loss vs Tottenham on the final day.

The Blues, however, would lose the FA Cup final to Leicester in rather disappointing fashion.

Chelsea, though, still have a Champions League final to look forward to on Saturday, but it does look to be Manchester City who head into the final as favourites.

Should Chelsea lose the final, can their season be considered successful? Top-four was a decent achievement given their situation when Tuchel first took over, but the London outfit’s fans are still no doubt expecting more.

Chelsea’s priority in summer window

And if these last few weeks have shown anything, it is that Chelsea are still by no means the finished article and will likely need a few improvements if they wish to challenge Man City over a 38-game campaign.

The most obvious area Chelsea need to improve upon is up top. Olivier Giroud is out of contract at Stamford Bridge in the summer, whilst Tuchel clearly does not see Tammy Abraham as a Chelsea striker.

This leaves Chelsea with very few striking options, which is quite obvious when you see that Jorginho finished the Premier League season as their top scorer in the league with seven.

So, the signing of a top no.9 in the summer would no doubt appease the Chelsea faithful.

And, if recent reports prove true, then striking reinforcements do look to be a priority in west London.

According to the Sunday World, Chelsea have already set the wheels in motion on their transfer plans for this summer and signing a top striker is said to be the club’s overriding priority.

The report also covers Chelsea’s interest in Eden Hazard, though it is claimed that the Belgian is not a priority target for the club at this moment.

The Blues are, however, believed to be interested in bringing back another Belgian, with the SW claiming that Roman Abramovich is eager to lure Lukaku back to the Bridge.
