Life comes at you fast at the top level of professional football, a notion that Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham is being reminded of if reports are to believed. According to the Mirror, the Blues center-forward could be on his way out of Stamford Bridge this summer and back to former hunting grounds at Villa Park under Dean Smith, with a bid in the region of 40-million pounds being considered.
Despite a breakout Premier League season at Chelsea in 2019-20 under Frank Lampard where he would hit 15-goals in the league, Abraham quickly became yesterday’s news the following summer when the Blues brought in German international pair Timo Werner and Kai Havertz. Though the duo started life in the Premier League poorly, the sacking of Lampard and the subsequent hiring of Thomas Tuchel would end up being the catalyst for Abraham’s downturn at the club in conjunction with an ankle injury that meant just 17-minutes of football for the England international post-February 20th.

While on the treatment table, Chelsea added further fuel to the notion that his future may lie away from Stamford Bridge when the Blues put talks of a contract extension on hold. Once both Werner and Havertz began to show signs of improvement, and rumors of Chelsea monitoring center forwards like Erling Haaland this summer, a Chelsea exit for Abraham seems inevitable.
Aston Villa to rescue and rehabilitate Abraham?
It may all be coming to an end at Chelsea, but Tammy Abraham – still just 23-years-old – has his entire career ahead of him and an overall goal-scoring record between the Premier League and Championship that is considerable.

During his time under Dean Smith, Abraham was one of the main attacking catalysts for Aston Villa’s promotion campaign that saw the London-native bag 25-goals in 37-appearances for Villa in 2018-19. With Villa under siege with interest in talisman Jack Grealish, Smith will have considerable funds to add depth to a squad that is looking to build on their 2020-21 campaign that saw them climb from nearly being relegated the season prior, to finish 11th.
Villa still have England international Ollie Watkins as their first-choice center forward, and this summer has already completed business for Norwich’s creator in chief Emiliano Buendía, but a deal for Abraham would not only give Villa much-needed depth at center-forward in the form of a Premier League experienced option, but also a player that Smith already knows well and has a successful track record working with.
From a Villa standpoint, it would signal business that shows their intention to push forward in their project, and the acquisition of Abraham would give them another long-term building block to an ever-increasingly impressive puzzle.
