This summer there are several soap operas. There are of course the mercatos of Paris Saint-Germain and Olympique de Marseille, but the Girondins de Bordeaux are also at the heart of the news. Indeed, at the end of the season, King Street, the majority shareholder of the club at Le Scapulaire, decided to withdraw and not to assume its responsibilities.
We were also not very far from receivership, but finally an agreement was found with Gérard Lopez, the former boss of LOSC, for a takeover of the club. But it didn’t all end there and it was only the first step. Indeed, behind, the Girondins had to pass in front of the National Management Control Directorate (DNCG).

New luck on July 12
And this meeting was this Friday morning. Frédéric Longuépée, the current president of the Aquitains, was auditioned by the financial policeman just like the future buyer Gérard Lopez. But the two men were heard separately, one to present the accounts, the other to present his financing plan. Everything was far from being acquired. Moreover, this Friday, the financial policeman pronounced the demotion, as a precaution, of the club, which confirmed it via a statement.
” At the end of these various exchanges, the members of the committee pronounced the demotion of FC Girondins de Bordeaux in the Ligue 2 BKT championship “because of the withdrawal of the majority shareholder of the club”. But, don’t panic, it’s not over. The club must return to the DNCG on July 12 before a decision is finally taken before July 24, date of the resumption of Ligue 2. “FC Girondins de Bordeaux is hopeful that the resumption project presented to the DNCG, for which no major dispute has been raised concerning the coverage of the required financing, will allow this sanction to be lifted and its maintenance in Ligue 1. “ Toulouse will be the club that would benefit from a descent from Bordeaux. But nothing is done.
The official press release
“The Girondins de Bordeaux Football Club appeared at the hearing of the Federal Club Control Commission (DNCG) this Friday, July 2, 2021.
This hearing took place in 2 stages: (1) a hearing to present the financial situation of FC Girondins de Bordeaux and its estimated budget for the 2021-2022 season, and (2) a hearing to check the takeover project.
The first hearing revealed the impossibility of meeting the needs of the Club following the withdrawal of the majority shareholder.
The second hearing made it possible to present the takeover project and the coverage of the financing requirement by contributions from the various parties in accordance with the agreement in principle (“Term Sheet”) signed between the company Jogo Bonito, Fortress and King Street.
At the end of these various exchanges, the members of the committee pronounced the demotion of FC Girondins de Bordeaux in the Ligue 2 BKT championship “because of the withdrawal of the majority shareholder of the club”.
The Club will naturally appeal this decision to allow the buyer to finalize his takeover plan by proceeding in particular to the sequestration of the funds and the signing of all the agreements related to the takeover of the club on the 12th July.
FC Girondins de Bordeaux is optimistic that the resumption project presented to the DNCG, for which no major dispute has been raised concerning the coverage of the required financing need, will allow this sanction to be lifted and its maintenance in Ligue 1.“
