Barca, Real & Juve statement

With the 9 clubs publicly declaring their support to UEFA, this left Real Madrid, Barcelona and Juventus the remaining sides yet to commit.

However, no such commitment is expected to be forthcoming considering what the clubs have just announced.

The statement claimed that threats were being made.

‘The founding clubs have suffered, and continue to suffer, unacceptable third-party pressures, threats, and offenses to abandon the project and therefore desist from their right and duty to provide solutions to the football ecosystem via concrete proposals and constructive dialogue.

‘This is intolerable under the rule of law and Tribunals have already ruled in favour of the Super League proposal, ordering FIFA and UEFA to, either directly or through their affiliated bodies, refrain from taking any action which may hinder this initiative in any way while court proceedings are pending.’

It also went on to claim that the Founding Clubs would be ‘irresponsible’ if they ‘abandoned such mission.’ They claim they are trying to fight against forces which ‘threaten the football industry.’

‘We would be highly irresponsible if, being aware of the needs and systemic crisis in the football sector, which led us to announce the Super League, we abandoned such mission to provide effective and sustainable answers to the existential questions that threaten the football industry.’

Yet despite the hard message, the statement was rounded off by saying that they still wish to work with UEFA and FIFA to find solutions.

‘Furthermore, we reiterate to FIFA, UEFA and all football stakeholders, as we have done on several occasions since the announcement of the Super League, our commitment and determination to discuss, with respect and without intolerable pressure and in accordance with the rule of law, the most appropriate solutions for the sustainability of the whole football family.’

Strange that to work with organisations a secret breakaway was their way of showing it.

Ceferin planning bans

It has been known for some time that UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has viewed the 12 clubs in different levels of consequence.

“But for me it’s a clear difference between the English clubs and the other six. They pulled out first, they admitted they made a mistake. You have to have some greatness to say ‘I was wrong,’” he said.

“For me there are three groups of this 12 – the English six, who went out first, then the other three after them and then the ones who feel that Earth is flat and they think the Super League still exists. And there is a big difference between those. But everyone will be held responsible. In what way, we will see.

“I don’t want to say disciplinary process but it has to be clear that everyone has to be held responsible in a different way. Is it disciplinary? Is it the decision of the executive committee? We will see. It’s too early to say.”

But it now appears the consequences are about to be laid out with Barca, Real and Juve all facing the threat of being banned from UEFA competitions for the next two years.

After the Champions League final in Istanbul, the trio are said to be told of their exclusion.

What the other 9 clubs will face is as of yet unknown. It is still to be confirmed that the bans will go ahead but it would be arguably one of the biggest sanctions seen in the modern era of football.
