Arsenal’s Tapsoba interest is ‘serious’
In recent days Arsenal have been linked to a number of centre halves including that of French defender Jules Koundé, Joachim Andersen and Tosin Adarabioyo.
Then arose links to Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba. The Burkina Faso international has impressed since moving to the Bundesliga and become a stalwart of the Leverkusen side.
There had been doubts about the legitimacy of Arsenal’s links to the defender considering their well-stocked roster of centre-halves at the club.
However, according to The Athletic, Arsenal’s interest in Edmond Tapsoba is genuine and even ‘serious’ at this stage.
Arsenal are seriously interested in Bayer Leverkusen’s 22-year-old centre-half Edmond Tapsoba.
This likely means that some departures may be expected however the club has seen David Luiz, Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi all leave in the last 6 months.
Arsenal face €60 million Tapsoba problem
The problem Arsenal faces regarding the defenders price tag and that has now been revealed to be something quite excessive.
Speaking on The Gooner Talk, Nathan Evans of Get German Football News revealed his reasoning behind why the Gunners would struggle to pursue a deal for the Bayer Leverkusen man which brought focus on the player’s likely fee.
“Is a deal likely this summer? I’m afraid to be the bearer of bad news but I think Arsenal is a club who will find it very difficult to get a deal done for the player this summer,” said Evans.
“First of all behind Florian Wirtz he is perhaps Leverkusen’s most important player now and a player that the club in particular want to build their future around. They see him as a player can push Leverkusen onto moving back into Champions League contention and potentially, who knows, moving onto title push maybe in the future if Bayern Munich’s dominance somewhat subsides.
“As a result of that, and also because of Kai Havertz’s sale last summer, they are not really rushed into cashing in on him as a player just yet. Patrick Berger from Sport1 is a very reliable journalist for information on the ground in German football and says Leverkusen actually wouldn’t even consider up in negotiations this summer for the defender for anything less than around €60 million.”
Arsenal’s financial capacity this summer is a relative unknown with the owners saying there are ‘big plans’ to invest but with history of the real little Investments taking place nothing can be guaranteed.
The price tag may put off the gunner’s But it may also be feasible depending upon what is available for Mikel Arteta to spend.
