Arsenal’s first summer signing imminent as Tavares departs for London

Arsenal-bound Nuno Tavares has this evening been spotted boarding a flight out of his home country of Portugal, widely reported to be bound for North London.

Gunners making moves

Speculation surrounding ongoings on the red half of the English capital has of course picked up in a major way over the last couple of weeks.

This comes as Mikel Arteta and co. aim to get their business on the transfer front finalised early, ahead of pre-season training camps getting underway across the Premier League landscape next month.

In turn, a big-money deal for Brighton defender Ben White is viewed as imminent, with reports having gone as far as to suggest that the English international is viewed as a potential future captain at the Emirates.

Swiftly following White’s arrival, meanwhile, will be reinforcements in the middle of the park, with Arsenal’s negotiations with Anderlecht over a swoop for the highly-regarded Sambi Lokonga understood to be at an advanced stage.

Sheffield United shot-stopper Aaron Ramsdale has too been hotly tipped to link up with the Gunners, amid mounting uncertainty surrounding the future of Bernd Leno.

Tavares incoming

Before any of the aforementioned trio of deals are formalised, however, left-back reinforcements first look set to make their way to North London.

This comes with Arsenal looking closer than ever to securing the signature of Nuno Tavares.

Benfica youngster Tavares has seemingly been identified as the ideal backup option to Kieran Tierney by Mikel Arteta, with a £7 million deal, in turn, reported to be in the pipeline.

And, if the latest footage stemming from his home country is anything to go by, then the 21-year-old’s Arsenal switch could be made official as early as this weekend.

In a clip which has since gone viral across social media, Tavares can be seen making his way through an airport in Lisbon. From here, the stopper is understood to have boarded a plane to England, ahead of putting pen to paper on a long-term contract with Arsenal:
