Arsenal eyeing Tomas
Now Tomas appears to be attracting the interest of a top Premier League side.
Sporting’s second-highest top scorer in history, Manuel Fernandes, has previously backed him to be an excellent striker who the big clubs will look to sign.
“Given his age and the rate of progression he has shown, in the future he will be an excellent striker,. He’s not just a striker who plays in the box, but a mobile forward.
“Sooner or later, big clubs in Europe will appear to sign him.”
One such club does look to be Arsenal. Goal have reported that the Gunners have held informal discussions with Tomas’ representatives regarding a move to the Emirates this summer.
Serie A outfit Roma are also said to be interested. However, it is added that Tomas is likely to stay with Sporting for next season to play Champions League football for the first time.
Tomas’ current deal, which runs until 2025, is also said to contain a €60m release clause, which would likely further dent any hope Arsenal have of landing him this summer.
