Tierney a shining light in Arsenal’s Dismal Season
It has been a horrible season for Arsenal fans.
Finishing eighth in the Premier League, they were knocked out of the Europa League at the semi-final stage by the manager they replaced with Mikel Arteta, ending the trophy with no European football next season, and no silverware.
However, one ray of light was left-back Kieran Tierney, signed in 2019 from Scottish side Celtic. While injury hampered his first season, Tierney appeared 27 times in the Premier League this campaign, providing one goal and four assists from left-back.
His value to the side was shown even more in his absence- Arsenal struggled for creativity whilst the Scot was injured, with Cedric Soares, Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka all filling in during his injury layoff. Whilst none were awful, none provided the same dynamic to the side as the ex-Bhoy.
Indeed, many Arsenal fans have already labelled the 24-year-old as a future Arsenal captain, due to both his passion on the pitch and his ability to bark orders to his team-mates.
Happy Birthday Kieran Tierney 🥳 He has been great since signing for #Arsenal.

New contract in the works
What will please Arsenal fans is the fact that while they are yet to make a move in the transfer market, they are at least tying down their best players to long-term deals.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported that a new deal for the impressive Emile Smith Rowe is “just waiting last details”, which will see the Englishman tie down his future until 2026.
Emile Smith-Rowe is ready to sign a new contract with Arsenal until June 2026 after negotiations started in March. Just waiting last details to be completed – then it’ll be done. ⚪️🔴 #AFC
In the meantime, Willian is expected to leave Arsenal this summer as Xhaka and Guendouzi. https://t.co/0oLWSdBGFP

And in a further bout of good news, Football.London journalist Chris Wheatley reports that the Gunners have also opened talks with Kieran Tierney about an improved deal.

How far advanced these talks are is unclear, however, it will please Arsenal fans to see one of their star performers last season being tied down to a longer deal.
