Renato Sanches’ late Euro audition
Portugal were dumped out of Euro 2020 by Belgium in the last 16 having finished 3rd in their group behind France and Germany. Both of whom have also been eliminated.
The Portuguese were expected to go onto big things this summer with an amazing pool of talent.
However, it became clear that for all their might, they lacked chemistry and the loss of Joao Cancelo to Covid had a huge impact on their attacking system. Nelson Semedo came in but was far inferior in regards to performance output.
The main problem lay in the midfield though. Bruno Fernandes was unable to bring his EPL form through to the Euros and after a couple games Fernando Santos decided to oust the former Sporting man in favour of Renato Sanches.
Sanches gave Portugal the energy in midfield which had been lacking, in addition to great transition of the ball. They were arguably the better side against Belgium and created far more big chances with Sanches integral.
His title winning season at Lille brought more interest and it now appears a move could materialise.
Liverpool & Arsenal ‘interested’
Lille are looking likely to see plenty of talent leave the club once again. Making a tidy profit on plenty of Luis Campos acquired talents.
Sanches appears to be one of them and this morning French outlet L’Equipe suggested via Sport Witness that English heavyweights Arsenal and Liverpool are looking at the player and are ‘very interested.’
The former Bayern Munich man has already been teasing fans thanks to a response to Gabriel Magalhaes of Arsenal saying ‘come to Arsenal’ and the Lille man replying ‘I’m wait for your invitation.’
Could this be a tease which becomes reality? Should Arsenal firm up their interest into a bid in the coming weeks, an answer could be revealed.
